You’ve probably noticed how many more delivery vehicles there are than a decade ago. As much as you may value the convenience of shopping online, you’ve probably noticed some of the downsides of this change.
Not only has it caused many local shops to go out of business, but the delivery vehicles present an additional hazard for the public. They often park with two wheels on the sidewalk, blocking your way if you are on foot and being hard to see around when you drive. They also have a tendency to stop and pull out without much notice. So, it’s no surprise that delivery drivers cause many collisions. Here is why:
They lack training
If you move to a new place, delivery driving is one of the simplest jobs to pick up. You do not need to go through the extensive training you would for most other driving roles and can start earning sooner. However, there is a reason why other driving roles require training – it increases safety.
They spend a lot of time looking at screens
Delivery drivers use their phones or other electronic systems to follow their schedules. They need to search for their next location, find a route to it and document their completion of the task. All of which can take their attention away from the road.
They are under pressure
Delivery companies place immense pressure on their drivers. They need to work fast to meet their allotted schedules and may sometimes break traffic laws to do so.
Those are just some of the reasons a delivery driver might cause a crash. Getting help to explain a crash that injures you is wise if you wish to claim compensation.
