How do bad habits lead to more motor vehicle accidents?

As a driver in Pasadena, California, you know how important it is to take care while behind the wheel. Staying fully aware of your surroundings can keep you and everyone else safer on the road. Unfortunately, bad habits can lead to distracted driving and subsequent motor vehicle accidents.

What can happen when drivers use their cell phones while behind the wheel?

At this point, everyone who drives knows that there are certain laws in place regarding distracted driving. Using a handheld cell phone while behind the wheel can have terrible consequences. Even a simple glance at a text message for a few seconds can result in a motor vehicle accident or MVA. It’s especially risky to look at a phone while traveling on a road that has a median, shoulder, multiple lanes or faster speed limit.

Sadly, the habit of using a cell phone in a manner that isn’t hands-free isn’t anything new among drivers. People get too bold and think they’re safe enough drivers that they can chance a glance at their phone while driving. Research performed by Texas A&M University showed that there is a much greater likelihood of a car accident occurring when drivers are distracted. One researcher stated that he would often notice other drivers using their phones to text, talk or scroll when he was driving. He added that there’s a distinct pattern where this happens more often as well.

The study’s findings did not account for older adults or other people who don’t use an app to track their driving. The researchers also expressed interest in data on cell phone use and the timing of traffic signals while drivers are at intersections.

The researcher stated that roads that have higher volumes of distracted driving accidents should have more signs posted and the attention of law enforcement and transportation agencies.

Who can help you if you were injured by a distracted driver?

An attorney can help you if you suffered a personal injury after a motor vehicle accident with a distracted driver. An attorney can help you prepare your claim and see that you get a compensation amount that’s more than satisfactory.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
