If you must have your day in court, make it a good day

The dangers of cognitive distraction

California drivers hit the road every day with a slew of distractions taking their attention off the roadway. From having a simple conversation with a passenger to rubbernecking at an accident scene, these distractions can naturally pop up at every turn. By understanding what some of your most common cognitive distractions are, you can work to avoid them better in the future.

What are cognitive distractions?

Cognitive distraction is a blanket term used to describe any distraction that takes your attention off the road. This distraction could be present inside of your car, such as changing the radio station, or outside the car, like seeing the aftermath of motor vehicle accidents. As long as the distraction takes your attention off the roadway, then it’s considered a cognitive distraction.

Why are cognitive distractions so dangerous?

Cognitive distractions can be extremely dangerous because they take your attention off the task of driving. When this happens, you’re not ready to react to unforeseen obstacles on the roadway. Most people are surprised to find out that they can travel the length of a football field in five seconds when they’re going 55 miles per hour.

In that short burst of time, that’s a very long distance for a driver not to be paying attention to the roadway that they’re traveling on. All it would take is a vehicle in front of you to hit the brakes or an oncoming driver to swerve into your lane for you to be involved in a serious car accident.

Cognitive distractions are becoming an increasing danger for drivers on the roadway. As more gadgets are introduced into vehicles, it’s important for drivers to remember that driving is their number one priority. When you get behind the wheel of your vehicle, you should be solely focused on driving safely to your destination.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
