2018 reports show speeding as major factor in fatal crashes

Speeding was a factor in 26% of all the traffic deaths that arose in 2018. There were 8,447 fatal accidents attributable to speeding and a total of 9,378 deaths. On average, around 25 people died every day that year because of drivers breaking the speed limit or going too fast for road and weather conditions. Perhaps you were the victim of a speeding driver in Pasadena, Calif. If so, you may have a valid personal injury case on your hands.

Looking at the statistics by age and gender

It’s worth noting that 9,378 fatalities is at least a slight decrease from 2010 when 10,508 people died. Thirty-two percent of traffic fatalities in 2010 were speeding-related. Nonetheless, safety advocates say the numbers should still be lower.

The youngest drivers were those most likely to be speeding in these crashes in 2018. Thirty percent of speeding drivers involved in fatal accidents were males between 15 and 20 years old. After this, the most frequent offenders were men aged 21 to 24 (29%) and men aged 25 to 34 (25%). Fewer women were discovered to be speeding; the percentages came to 18% for females between 15 and 20 and 14% for females in the other two age groups.

Speeding combines with road conditions, alcohol

Speeding-related crashes usually involved some adverse road condition. Of all the fatal collisions that took place on dirty, muddy or gravelly roads, 45% were speeding-related. Speeding was behind 41% of fatal accidents on frosty or icy roads and 37% of accidents on roadways with moving or standing water.

Next, alcohol was a significant factor. While 22% of speeding drivers under 21 were found to be intoxicated, the percentage jumped to 42% among drivers aged 25 to 44. Among 55- to 64-year-olds, it went down to 32%.

Finding a lawyer for your injury case

Many car accidents can lay down the foundation for personal injury cases. This is where the victim seeks compensation from the responsible driver’s insurance company. If you believe you have good grounds for such a case, you may want a lawyer to conduct an assessment. Legal counsel could handle negotiations and more.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
