Do GPS devices cause accidents?

Have you ever been driving and trying to follow your GPS directions at the same time? The GPS device is a great way to get from point “A” to point “B”. It has made travel much easier in so many ways for commuters and drivers of all kinds.

However, the GPS device may have some downsides. Despite its many advantages, some drivers find it difficult to pay attention to both the road and the instructions at the same time. Whenever there are distractions of any type, an accident is more likely to occur.

Confusing directions

Have you ever been following your GPS, just to find out that it is not taking you to the exact location you set it to? Some people have tried following their GPS but have found themselves more lost and turned around. The directions could make you go the long way instead of a more direct route. You might find yourself growing more and more agitated with maneuvering yourself around town. These frustrations and the confusion of following inaccurate directions are a recipe for an accident.

Not properly mounted

GPS displays that are not properly mounted may take your hands and your eyes off the road for extended amounts of time lead to unfortunate accidents. If your phone falls out of its place as you turn, you are left trying to recover your phone and keep up with the directions it is trying to give to you. Any device that you are focusing on may add to the events that lead to rear-ending another vehicle or running a stop sign or light.

Serious consequences may result from distraction of any kind. GPS devices and apps are best used when you familiarize yourself with your route ahead of time, properly mount the phone, and if possible, have someone in the car help you with the directions. The last thing anyone wants is to suffer preventable injuries and costs due to not taking simple precautions in advance.
