Nail guns: a gift and a curse

The first simple trick is to learn how to use one before picking it up. Don’t let anyone handle the tool who hasn’t been properly trained.

The user should always be sober. Never nail gun under the influence.

And it’s just as important not to use a nail gun while angry, frustrated or upset in any way. Everyone tends to make more mistakes when they’ve lost their cool, and that’s never a good time to hold something that could become a deadly weapon when used incorrectly.

The hazards that nail guns present come from the power that the mechanism puts behind the sharp piece of metal and the simplicity of their operation.

Both workers and consumers get hurt. Most of these injuries happen to professionals simply because they use them more often.

Why do nail gun injuries happen?

According to some studies, people are two times as likely to be injured while using a nail gun with a contact trigger. This is opposed to sequential trigger nail guns, which experts would argue are the far safer option.

These types of accidents typically happen you accidentally discharge a nail and weren’t expecting it. There are a variety of ways that this might happen.

Sometimes, two nails will come out when you only meant to discharge one. This is often called a double fire.

In other cases, the user unintentionally knocked the safety contact. This can happen while squeezing the trigger.

Nail guns are indisputably an extremely helpful tool for a variety of situations. And with their utility comes the increased risk of hurting yourself and experiencing serious injury. But by following the correct protocol and having awareness of what the dangers are, you can avoid injury to yourself or others.
