If you must have your day in court, make it a good day

What are the common reasons for motor vehicle accidents?

Collisions and crashes occur everywhere. Accidents happen on high-speed freeways, city streets and parking lots alike. California certainly has its share of wrecks. Maybe drivers should start asking, “Why?” Understanding the common causes of accidents may help drivers be warier on the road. A little self-reflection might help, too. Knowing what causes collisions might lead drivers to avoid dangerous behaviors.

Not following traffic laws

Are there any surprises that failure to follow traffic laws leads to accidents? Speeding likely contributes to many horrible accidents. When driving at an unsafe speed, it could become difficult for a vehicle to stop in time and maintain adequate control on slick roads. However, any moving violation could create the potential for a collision. Not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign or failing to use a turn signal could lead to disasters.

Driving while impaired also increases the risk of a collision. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs stands as the reason for many fatal accidents in the United States. Even using certain legally prescribed or over-the-counter drugs could impair performance behind the wheel.

Other factors that contribute to collisions

Safety organizations attempt to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. Vehicles now come equipped with an incredible array of technology and other features that could direct attention away from the road, and texting while driving remains a potentially dangerous activity. Distractions may even come from holding conversations with another person in the vehicle. Ultimately, a failure to direct concentration to where it belongs could lead to an accident.

A close cousin to distracted driving is drowsy driving. Not getting enough rest before sitting behind the wheel or driving for too many hours in a row might sap attention and concentration.

Collisions happen on the road for many reasons. Drivers may benefit from learning about the most common causes of motor vehicle accidents. Persons injured in a car accident may consult with an attorney.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
