Possible causes and treatments of brain hemorrhages

On Behalf of | May 15, 2020 | Brain Injury, Medical Malpractice |

When arteries in the brain burst, it causes what is referred to as cerebral or intracranial hemorrhages. Blood can leak into nearby tissue and cause the death of brain cells. There are many ways that brain bleeding can occur, and there are several tests that doctors in California may use to determine if you have experienced a cerebral hemorrhage.

Common causes of bleeding in the brain

If you are under the age of 50, the most common cause bleeding in the brain is head trauma. This type of trauma is generally associated with car accidents or slips and falls. A hemorrhage may also be the result of a health condition that makes you more susceptible to bleeding, a brain tumor or liver disease.

The signs of a brain hemorrhage

Symptoms of a hemorrhage may appear suddenly or progressively over time depending on where the bleeding is taking place and how severe the problem is. If you have trouble swallowing, feel numbness in your arms or experience sudden headaches, you should see a doctor as quickly as possible. The same is true if you suddenly have trouble talking, writing or understanding what others are saying.

Different test and treatment options may be available

A doctor will typically conduct an MRI, an eye exam or both to determine the exact cause of your symptoms. He or she may also do a lumbar puncture in an effort to accurately diagnose what is happening to you. In some cases, a brain bleed may be treated with steroids or other types of medications. However, there is a chance that you will need to undergo surgery to resolve the issue.

If you have recently experienced a traumatic brain injury, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills or other damages. An attorney may be able to help hold the party or parties that caused your TBI accountable for their actions. Photos, videos or witness statements might be used to help prove that negligence played a role in your injury occurring.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
