Juvenile cyclist critically hurt in hit-and-run crash

Throughout the year, you'll see cyclists dotting the streets in Pasadena. The weather is normally good and appropriate for riding, so it's a good way to stay in shape and avoid the heavy traffic.

Unfortunately, cyclists aren't always safe on the roads. Take, for example, the case of a cyclist who was critically injured when they were hit on Marengo Avenue. The vehicle that struck them had been traveling in the same direction.

Shockingly, the driver fled the scene after hitting the juvenile cyclist. With the information provided by a witness, the police were able to detain the driver a short time later. It was a 35-year-old woman who may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. She was arrested by the Pasadena Police Department for a DUI resulting in serious injury and hit-and-run.

This situation is just one of many in which cyclists are hurt while riding on the road. Drivers need to be cautious and if they see cyclists in their path, they should give them space. There is never any reason to sideswipe a cyclist, especially if they are in the lane and have a right to be there.

If you are hurt by someone who drives too closely to you or are involved in a hit-and-run crash where the individual has been caught, it's important to assert your rights and pursue your legal options. No one should be able to get away with striking a cyclist and trying to flee from the scene because it endangers you and future cyclists.
