Tips to prevent distracted driving

Distracted driving has developed into one of the most significant issues in the nation. It has become one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. This is largely a result of the wide range of distractions available in contemporary society.

Approximately nine people lose their lives because of distracted driving every day. Fortunately, preventing this issue is relatively simple. It is easier said than done but understanding how to properly handle distractions can make a big difference in ending this problem.

Ignore your electronics

Developments in technology have done a lot of good for society. One of the greatest drawbacks, however, is how these electronics affect drivers. Cell phones in particular have become potentially the greatest distractions for drivers. It’s very easy to scroll through your phone while driving, but this can be extremely dangerous.

The best choice is to completely ignore your cell phone and other electronics while driving. Put it on vibrate and stay focused on the road because one second staring at your cell phone could prove deadly.

Pull over when necessary

Sometimes it’s better to simply pull over to the side of the road. This could be a matter of responding to an emergency or maybe you’re feeling tired and unable to focus. Trying to get to your destination faster is not an acceptable substitute in these situations. It can put both you and other drivers at risk.

Keep the road safe by taking a moment to pull over and collect yourself instead of driving distracted.

Prepare before driving

Have you ever been running late and tried to prepare in your car on the way to your destination? Multi-tasking, especially on a crowded road, can be very dangerous. Instead of trying to drive while combing your hair or adjusting your seat, take care of these issues before starting the car.

Anytime your focus is on something other than the road you are more susceptible to the dangers of distracted driving. If possible, it’s better to avoid driving until you’re prepared to place your entire focus on the road.

Eat your food wisely

Eating and driving has long contributed to the issue of distracted driving. Most people have tried to finish their lunch on the way to their next destination, but this can lead to a dangerous situation. Snacking on messy food can lead to spills that will shift your focus from the road. Digging through the bag for that last fry can make you less attentive to what is happening in front of you. It’s better to avoid eating altogether, but if this isn’t possible, make sure you’re wise with the food you decide to eat.

Distracted driving is an extremely pressing issue in society, but you can help prevent it by staying focused and avoiding situations that may shift your attention from where it should be.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
