Perdue recalls several tons of chicken over found bone pieces

Have you checked what’s in your freezer? If you’re thinking of pulling out some chicken for dinner tonight, you may want to double check the packaging. Chicken producer Perdue has recalled over 30,000 pounds of chicken sold nationwide over the possibility of containing bone pieces.

The recall covers many organic chicken products produced last March with an expiration date of May 20. Perdue specifically recalled the Simply Smart and Chef Quik branded chicken nuggets, tenders and patties. These brands are the specialty gluten free and organic brands for Perdue.

The danger of chicken bones

Chicken nuggets and tenders are popular foods, but especially with children. You may feel like you’re doing the responsible thing by feeding your child gluten-free breaded chicken nuggets or tenders, but chicken bone pieces could present a choking hazard to your little ones. Be aware that anyone can choke on a piece of chicken bone, especially if they’re unaware of it, but children have smaller wind pipes than adults. This increases the risk for choking.

You should also be aware of the potential dangers of unsuspectingly biting down on a chicken bone. Biting down on a chicken bone can crack, chip or otherwise damage a tooth. These injuries are painful and can lead to expensive dental procedures such as crowns or bonding to repair the damaged tooth.

Chicken recalls have become common recently

This is the fourth chicken-related food recall in the last six months and the second for Perdue alone. Before you decide to prepare that chicken in your freezer tonight, check the production and expiration dates to make sure that chicken isn’t in a recall.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
