4-car wreck with DUI arrests takes 1 life

A woman from California passed away in an accident that closed down all of the westbound lanes on SR-78. Reports indicate that four different vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The crash happened very early in the morning on Sunday, August 5; it was right around 2:15 a.m., when the first calls began to come in to the emergency dispatchers. Those reports indicated that one car had rolled and was lying in the center divider, on its roof.

Details are sparse about the initial accident, which involved the car that rolled, but that crash appears to have happened first. After it did, at least two more vehicles coming down the road then slammed into that flipped car.

The California Highway Patrol arrested the drivers who had been in those vehicles that caused the secondary crash, saying they were allegedly driving while intoxicated. It is not clear if any of the other drivers were intoxicated as well.

When asked for the age of the woman who passed away in the accident, the Vista deputy fire chief said they did not know at this time. The emergency crews did take five more people to local medical centers, meaning at least six people suffered injuries in the multi-car wreck.

The crash was bad enough that the CHP had to shut down the road until after 12:00 p.m., on Sunday for clean-up, rescue efforts and their investigation.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
