You go in for surgery and though the doctor says that it went well, you worry that something is wrong. You feel a bit “off” as you start your recovery.
If you have any worry that you’re experiencing internal bleeding, perhaps due to mistakes made during surgery, do not hesitate to seek out medical care. This is potentially a very serious situation, and you do not want to delay.
Some signs of internal bleeding include:
- Blood in the mouth or during regurgitation
- Blood in the stool
- Blood in the urine
- Menstrual periods that are irregular, prolonged and heavy
- Blood coming up when coughing
- Excess pain in your abdomen. This one can be a bit hard to pin down since you just had surgery and, if it was in that area, some pain is to be expected.
- Going into shock. Shock symptoms include issues like sweaty skin, a rapid heartbeat, a decline in mental function and low blood pressure.
- Swelling. When swelling gets bad enough in one area, it can lead to Compartment Syndrome.
- Numbness and other issues that could relate to circulatory function.
- Reduced mobility, which could relate back to Compartment Syndrome.
You also want to watch out for issues that could mean your brain is not getting enough blood or that there is bleeding on the brain if that was the location of your surgery. These include confusion, weakness, headaches, mental changes, vision issues and slurred speech.
If you do suffer from internal bleeding after a medical professional makes a mistake, take the time to really look into all of the options you have to seek compensation.
