Three people have passed away after a tragic car accident that caused their vehicle to burst into flames. The man who allegedly caused the wreck has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to reports, a blue Dodge Caravan was heading through an intersection legally in South Los Angeles with an entire family inside. That included a father in his 30s, a mother, a daughter whose age was not reported, a nine-year-old boy and an infant.

As they went through the intersection, a black Nissan Xterra allegedly ran the light and hit their vehicle. A witness, who watched the accident, which occurred around 7:30 on April 29, said that he thought the Xterra was going to miss the light and accelerated to try to make it. However, it was too late, and it went through the red light. He said the van was attempting to make a left-hand turn.

The impact was violent enough that the SUV pushed the van about 25 feet. It slammed into a curb and caught on fire.

The mother and the nine-year-old, though in critical condition, made it to the hospital. The other three were trapped in the burning van and passed away, despite the best efforts of bystanders to pull them to safety.

The reason the SUV ran the red light became more clear when another person who lives on that road said that the same Xterra, with the allegedly drunk driver, smashed into a van. After the minor crash, people there yelled to get the driver to stop, but he floored it and ran from the scene.

A horrible accident like this can change many lives in a split second. It is very important for family members to know all of the legal options they have.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
