How can I preserve evidence from a car accident?

On Behalf of | Feb 19, 2018 | Car Accidents |

When you are involved in a car accident, it can be traumatizing, stressful and overwhelming all at one time. You might not know what to do following an accident, especially if you’ve never been involved in one. It’s very important for you to remain at the scene, even if you weren’t the at-fault driver. It’s also important that you seek medical attention from responding emergency personnel. Preserving evidence is another task you might want to perform after an accident.

The best thing you can do to preserve evidence is to take pictures. Take pictures of the damage to all cars involved. Take pictures of the debris scattered on the road. Pictures will be a big help to the responding officers and for any legal case you want to file due to the accident.

Do not touch anything at the accident scene, even if it is debris blocking a lane of travel. You should never mess with evidence, even to move it away from oncoming traffic. It can taint the evidence. Let other vehicles move it so you aren’t the one responsible.

If evidence has been moved, either accidentally or on purpose, be sure to tell responding officers. Let them know where the evidence was located and where it is now. They will want to document these items and include them in their report.

If you can, write down what happened leading up to the accident and the accident itself after receiving medical care. This way the information is fresh in your mind and nothing can become clouded.

Have you suffered an injury in a Pasadena car accident? It’s best for you to not only seek medical treatment but also take pictures of the debris and vehicles involved. These pictures might go a long way in helping you bring a case against the at-fault driver.

He actually persuaded me not to settle because he believed that we had a great case. So we took the case to trial and he fought like crazy for me. And we won! It was a really good experience —well, as much as it can be for a lawsuit — and I’m very happy I went with them. I’ve been really blessed to have him as my attorney, so I recommend him whenever I can.”
