Motorcycle accident claims life of military veteran in California

On behalf of Ball & Bonholtzer posted in  Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

U.S. troops fight hard and bravely to keep our country safe. Thanks to their sacrifices and hard work, Americans can sleep better at night. Many soldiers have experienced traumatic battles while on tour, but unfortunately, the roads back home in California present their own dangers. Recently a motorcycle accident in Chatsworth cost a U.S. Marine his life. The 27-year-old Marine was driving his motorcycle when a car cut in front of him, causing him to crash into the vehicle. The crash proved fatal to the marine. He had finished two tours of Afghanistan and was a graduate of California State University Northridge. Distracted or otherwise negligent driving by car and truck drivers can often prove deadly to motorcyclists.

One of the biggest problems is that other vehicles do not see them, leading to cut-offs, sideswiping and other accidents. Inattentive or negligent drivers are often at fault for injuries and fatalities in these situations. Since his death, the marine's family has lobbied for lawmakers to provide a number of turn arrows placed at intersections in the area. In order to increase other drivers' awareness of motorcycles and prevent accidents, the American Motorcycle Association has also declared the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. Los Angeles residents injured in a motorcycle accident may be entitled to compensation for their injuries. Family members of a loved one killed in a motorcycle accident may also be eligible for compensation. A legal professional may be able to provide help and advice regarding the legal rights and options available after an accident.
