As warmer temperatures sweep the coast, more and more California residents will take their motorcycles out. Whether it’s a weekend trip to Vegas or a commute to work, motorcycles are very important to many Los Angeles residents. While motorcycles give riders a number of advantages they can also be very dangerous. In fact, motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to experience a deadly accident than drivers. With many motorcycle accidents occurring each year, it is important to spread safety awareness.
Each year thousands of motorcyclists are killed from a traffic accident. One of the leading causes of motorcycle accidents is that drivers do not see motorcycles. That is why the American Motorcyclist Association has declared the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. The group along with many others hopes to spread awareness for motorcycle safety by reminding all drivers to look around and be conscious of their two wheeled friends. One of the biggest concerns for the group is inattentive drivers. Each year countless motorcycle accidents are caused by negligent drivers. Distracted driving, reckless driving and drunk driving have all cost many cyclists their lives. In 2006, 88,000 motorcycles were injured just on Highways and another 4, 810 were killed on the road. Just about every accident can be prevented. The AMA has also reminded motorcyclists to wear and utilize helmets. Head injury is the leading cause of motorcycle deaths. While a helmet may protect a driver from most dangers, it cannot fully protect a rider from a negligent driver. With millions of Los Angeles residents, there is bound to be a few negligent drivers out on the roads at all times. If a rider is injured in a motorcycle accident from the negligence of another party, they may be able to receive compensation for their injuries and for their pain and suffering. Between loss wages, medical bills and the long-term care, prices can add up. An attorney may provide additional information for those injured.
