Erika P. Licón has successfully represented workers in various employment-related cases, consumers and insureds. For the last fourteen years, Ms. Licón has also been committed to empowering marginalized groups and individuals by way of political networking, grassroots organizing, community-building and professional legal advocacy.
Ms. Licón graduated from UCLA in 1998 summa cum laude with a B.A. in History. At UCLA, Ms. Licón participated in the College Honors program that requires enrollment in a minimum of ten graduate-level courses, and focused on economic globalization and transnational community-building. After UCLA, Ms. Licón became a labor organizer for the Service Employees International Union, AFL-CIO, and worked on the Justice for Janitors Campaign, where she was also active in facilitating Labor/Employment Rights Clinics.
Ms. Licón obtained her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in 2002. While in law school, Ms. Licón clerked for Bet Tzedek Legal Services and at plaintiff's firm, Quisenberry & Kabateck. She also worked with the National Lawyers Guild to protect our constitutional rights as a legal observer.
After obtaining her law degree, Ms. Licón worked at plaintiff's firm, Sosa, Simonson & Associates. She acted as first chair in a federal bad faith lawsuit that settled for over half-a-million. Thereafter, Ms. Licón worked at defense firm, Kegel, Tobin & Truce for over two years. During this time, Ms. Licón was also active as a pro bono attorney for the Garment Worker's Center, and as a legal observer for the National Lawyers Guild.
Ms. Licón also earned a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from UC Riverside in 2010. Ms. Licón received fellowships for her excellent academic and writing credentials. For her Master's Degree, Ms. Licón focused on transnational religious practices, Latina/o religions and human rights abuses at the U.S.-Mexican Borders, as well as the idiosyncrasies of U.S. Constitutional Law.
Ms. Licón is a member of the Mexican-American Bar Association, the Latina Bar Association, the National Lawyers Guild-Los Angeles Chapter, and the Consumer Rights Attorneys of Los Angeles.
